Homemade facial masks are a great alternative to masks that you buy in the stores or have applied at the spa. Why? When you make your own masks you can be sure that only the freshest ingredients are used. You also can be assured that your mask is not full of strange chemical preservatives, unlike most commercial skin care products. If you pay extra in the stores for organic skin care products, why not try making your own at home? It isn't nearly as complicated as you think it would be.
Homemade facial masks can be totally customized for your individual skin care needs. If you have dry, sensitive skin, a mask made with oatmeal and honey is very soothing and moisturizing for your highly reactive skin. If your skin is on the oily side, a mask containing lemon will tone your skin and help tighten enlarged pores. If you have a problem with acne, you can create a mask containing aspirin(salicylic acid), the same ingredient featured in many commercial acne products, that does wonders to help unclog pores and prevent acne from spreading.
Homemade facial masks, just like their commercial counterparts, should not be used on a daily basis since skin irritation may occur from overuse. Even though the masks you make yourself is from natural ingredients, everything in nature also has a chemical basis. Applying anything too often on your skin will eventually cause irritation.
Homemade facial masks can be made from ingredients you already have on hand. Fruits, oatmeal, yogurt, baking soda and sugar can all be very effective ingredients for a mask. Not only will making your own products give you healthy, glowing skin, they will also leave your bank account in much better shape than commercial beauty products do.
