I am having a problem with growing facial hair and I am 18 years of age.?

Every male in my family, from uncles to dad to even my little 16 year old brother, can grow damn near a full beard at least. I on the other hand have a very sparse growth that occurs down the sides of face, under my chin, upper lip and lower lip. There is hair that grows there, but it is very sparse and does not fill in at all to look good enough to keep. Am i screwed? Or is there such thing as being able to grow it as time goes on even though I am 18? I am not sure on the cycle and would like some clarification if anyone could help on the growth process.
