Neither of my parents told me about acne. Since both of them had acne problems of their own, I really wish they would have spoken to me about it. It might have helped me prepare for becoming the scourge of the universe.

To tell the truth, they did talk to me about my little condition. But what they told me didn't give me much hope for my outbreaks. I had to try to find my own solution to the problem, since my parents never discovered it for themselves. Sad, don't you think?

Acne is a condition that hits most teens at some point. This is Mother Nature's way of saying, "You are hormonally changing into an adult". Our hormones begin to affect the oils that secrete from our sweat glands. It is oily and loaded with bacteria, that our bodies find; less than inviting.

Our skin pores become loaded with this bacteria and dead skin cells that clog the pores of our faces, shoulders, necks, backs and other places too. These pimples we get are the acne. The acne is basically a reaction to this hormonal change.

Here are some tips that can help you.

1. Don't fall for the 'acne product-hype'

At some point you will go down to the pharmacy to find something to treat your ace. This is understandable, since the pharmacy is right there.

Unfortunately a lot of the acne treatments you get over the counter are very bad quality. Some work, some don't. Firstly, look at the active ingredients. Of course there are a lot of brilliant products what will work; you just have to know what you are looking for. If there is a 'caution' label on the product, which says it might cause irritation on the skin; you might want to think twice. There are other products that are easier on your skin, that really do work.

2. Don't scrub or start popping the zits.

Popping zits is one of the worst things you can do, and must stop now. It will only spread more bacteria to your already infected pores. Scrubbing your face raw is also something that has to stop. This irritates the infected area, and can spread the infection even further.

Instead of popping your pimples you need to leave them alone. They will pop when they are ready. I know it's difficult to resist popping a itchy pimple that hurts. But if leave them alone you will not damage the pore further, and can over it becoming more swollen and infected.

3. Change your lifestyle.

Your body works like an organic food processor. So whatever you put in will come out. If you eat for example potato chips, this has already been processed. This means you body doesn't have to do much to digest and break down the chips.

Your body is trying to eliminate the oily hormonal mess that is going on. If you eat healthier you will help your body on the way. You will see the results in less acne.

4. Try the miracle cures, before seeing a dermatologist.

Going to the dermatologist is normally the last resort. There are a couple of miracle cures that can cure acne quickly. Try a few of these first, you don't have anything to lose. If one of them works, you are much better off. If not, you might want to head off for the dermatologist.
