The largest organ of the body is it's skin. This is what protects us from the elements, dehydration and even bacteria. The skin is the body's first line of defense. It is durable and repairs itself from damage. So, what do we do to protect it? There are a few ideas for some serious skin care so you can help your skin while it is protecting you.
Serious skin care should be a daily exercise. When it comes to your face, avoid deodorant soaps, which have a tendency to cause dryness, flaking and even cracking. Using products designed for your skin type is a smart move. Using products that are specifically designed for daily use is a good thing to keep in mind. Beware of scrubs and certain care products that contain Salicylic Acid, for when used in combinations with some products it too, may cause drying and even irritation.
If you are using a care product for that contains alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) keep in mind that this product can in fact make your skin more sensitive. There are studies that link this product to a greater sunburn risk. Some products that contain AHA now carry a warning on the label. It doesn't hurt to check though.
We have heard the warnings for years, and now is a good time, when improving your skin care to take heed. What ever brand of sun block you chose, you need to use it! SPF30, which blocks both UVA and UVB rays, is recommended by many dermatologists' .Whether swimming or exercise; it is always wise to reapply your sun block. Even skiing can cause sun burns, so it is wise to apply sun block before and during skiing.
Your lips need protection too. Shiny glosses can attract more sun, so remember to apply a sunscreen to your lips under all your lip wear. This is just another product to add to your serious skin care.
Covering up before you go out can also help you protect your skin. A light weight shirt can cover shoulders and arms and help prevent sun burn and damage. A hat can be worn to help protect the nose, forehead, scalp and ears. These areas get the most exposure so a little additional care can't hurt.
